Cornelius Harnett, American Hero

This evening our speaker was Sam Hummel. Sam was good friends with Ed McCormick and they collaborated on a project to bring the history of Cornelius Harnett to Harnett County and its residents. Sam spoke about a couple of books written about Harnett, and the display that is on the 2nd floor of the county’s courthouse. He also brought with him a painting which he and Ed had commissioned depicting Cornelius Harnett, slung across the back of a horse, brought through a North Carolina town by the British, who had branded him an outlaw (but he was a true American hero!).
