A Merry Christmas

We had a fun and informative Christmas gathering this evening at Nonna’s. Friends and spouses joined in the festivities, with a dinner of spaghetti, salad and garlic bread.
After dinner, President Lloyd presented Harnett County’s Teacher of the Year, Shannon Watkins, with a check from the Club for $750. Shannon has been a teacher at Harnett Central High School for 31 years. She is also a graduate from that same school. She followed that up with a bachelor’s degree from Meredith College where she was a Teaching Fellow.
Shannon has since obtained her National Board Certification and a Masters in School Administration. However, because of her love of the classroom, she never chose to pursue a career in administration. She says, “At the moment, I have no plans of retiring. I love my school and my students.”

Also joining us this evening was Dr. Adam English, chair of the Department of Christian Studies at Campbell University. Dr. English shared a presentation with us on a bit of history regarding the origins of Saint Nicholas – who originated in Turkey! We can’t wait to hear more about Saint Nicholas and how he ties into our current image of Santa Claus – next year.
